So here goes -
I was born in NYC a poor black child......
Just kidding - but I was born a poor Catholic child, raised by wolves.....Well not so much Catholic as Jewish.....well, Jewish, But I celebrate Christmas, go to midnight mass and get a tree......although Barbra Streisand's xmas album is my favorite, so I guess that's the "Jewish" in me....
and not so much raised poor, as middle class....with cable - BUT - and this is a big BUT - we only had 107 channels, so it wasn't like "Party city" or anything....my dad taught me to work hard to get the other 256 channels.
The part about the wolves? That actually IS true. Mom, Dad? - Sorry, but the truth is out. And I DEFINITELY was born in NYC and grew up in the suburbs outside.......where the wolves lived.......
OK - so rather than go from that 1st day in 3rd grade where I was hanging out in my mom's bed before school, looked aross into my dad's closet and said "Mommy, where did all of Daddy's clothes go"?, I'll just skip to 2001 -
Where I finally decided to pursue my dream of becoming a comedic actress. I went to a 2 year program at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC and LOVED it ! I met the most incredible people who I am still close with today. After graduating, I did some really great Broadway Theater...........well, not so much Broadway, as much as it was in my friend's basement..but it was enough to make me want more! SO in the Spring of 2003, I decided that I would muster up all the COURAGE in the world and make the big move to tinseltown in the Summer of 03. The fact that I was laid off from my job and had nothing else to do had NOTHING to do with it ! - it was MY COURAGE - MY COURAGE I TELL YOU !
So I was off to the city where dreams come true....but that didn't work, so I went to LA instead. I have always had a special love for California, I don't know why, but whatever it was, It made the transition way easy and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT HERE!
So I've been out here since then and in that time have made great progress - I got into a great Improv group where we perform weekly - www.StragerThanFictionComedy.com, I've done sketch comedy with Anne Beatts - an amazing writer who was one of the original writers from SNL, and I've been doing Standup Comedy for about 6 months! - at famous places like The Improv, The Comedy STore, The Icehouse and The place in the hallway at Joes' Diner (I guess that last one isn't quite as famous, but still) - and loving it !
So stay tuned for upcoming gigs and stuff and if you're one of my many amazing friends - how do I count the ways? - I can't - so I'll just say thank you SO much for the UNBELIEVABLE support you have all been giving me - there's no way I could do this without you guys! And when I make it, I will buy you all a car.....'course gas will be like $ 16.98 a gallon, so really, why bother?
